About the Triad Youth Jazz Society![]()
The Triad Youth Jazz Society is a non-profit organization for youth ages 8 to 18, designed to preserve the history of jazz music in our community. Coffee at The Summit, currently serves as base for the organization. This establishment, owned and operated by Stan Montgomery, provides a wholesome environment, conducive to learning. Our MissionThe mission of the Triad Youth Jazz Society is to use music education as a vehicle to create a learning model of excellence and to develop informed and responsible young global citizens. To assure continued public support, the Triad Youth Jazz Society will embrace the diversity of the triad community by studying and preserving jazz and its history for future generations. Our VisionThe vision of the Triad Youth Jazz Society is to develop an environment in which jazz music education can be fostered through a mentor-apprentice relationship. Through practice and performance, the Triad Youth Jazz Society promotes individual self-esteem and group success, while exposing the participants to international culture and raising their social consciousness. Our CurriculumOur curriculum, which is centered around the study of jazz history, is the backbone element of the program. Our professional instructors and mentors share a common goal in creating an environment where common courtesy, mutual respect, and appropriate communications skills are fostered. Participating youth are required to attend private music lessons under our music department, learning the theory of jazz music. Curriculum highlights consist of music education, the scholastic elements of music, the American history of jazz, and etiquette. We also require, as a built-in component of our program, strong parental or guardian active participation. We feel that this is an essential element directly designed for each child’s growth in the program. “Junior Jazz & Java”, also known as “J3”, is the performing group made up of program participants who have met the curriculum requirements of the program and who have demonstrated dedication and are striving to meet the expectations set forth by the organization. “Junior Jazz & Java” has performed on various venues with artists such as saxophonist, Euge Groove and jazz vocalist, Melva Houston. |
